Homegrown: Ramrod Cigars

May 21st, 2010

All cigars are only as useful as the tobaccos that go into the mix. That is why Ramrod Cigars use only the finest that Tennessee and Kentucky have to give. The mix is composed of tobaccos from these 2 states and from nowhere else. These tobaccos were selected because they’re famous for their powerful, hearty flavor. Other cigars use a few of these costly tobaccos in their mix, but Ramrod is the sole cigar that’s made entirely from tobaccos grown in Tennessee and Kentucky. The tobaccos are planted in May and are cropped in September, when the farmers hang the leaves in their barns till late January. In the time when the tobaccos are in the barns, they’re exposed to the smoke from select Hickory logs smoldering on the barn floor. This is often known as fire curing. Curing, in cigar parlance, is a strategy of slowly removing 85% of the moisture from the leaves. Removing the moisture makes the tobaccos simpler to handle, and they burn more uniformly when they’re rolled into cigars. The curing process also authorizes the leaves to go through a fermentation stage. Fermentation takes away the cruelty from the tobaccos, thus making the tobaccos mellow and flavorsome. Ramrod cigars are made purely of 100 pc tobacco. Unlike lots of cigars made in this country, they don’t utilize a homogenized binder in their cigars. Each cigar is made from natural tobaccos. Nothing yet invented has managed to replace the fine flavor of choice tobaccos. It is way more high-priced for us to make Ramrod Cigars without any synthetic tobacco, but it’s the sole way these cigars should be made.

The word CIGAR comes from the Spanish word: Cigarro.

The people of the West Indies were smoking cigars when Christopher Columbus came to America. Sir Walter Raleigh may have started the tobacco industry in the colonies, but in 1613, it was John Rolfe who began shipping tobacco back to Europe. Rolfe also married Pocohontas. Even before the time of Raleigh, smoking tobacco, in one form or another had been used for sacred rites, relaxation and for celebrations. Cigars didn’t always come in sweet smelling cedar boxes. In the old days, cigars were packed in pig’s bladders, to keep them moist. Statistics show that in 1973, (a previous height of cigar consumption) US people smoked 11.2 bill cigars: 54 cigars for every person in America.  A great way to smoke your share is to join a cigar of the month club.

Tobacco Pipe Smoking

April 2nd, 2010

Grab your favourite Dr Grabow Pipes, the best smelling savory tobacco you might find, and 2 easy pipe accessories and lets begin our lesson. Find a comfortable spot you can relax and enjoy your smoke. It’s important for you to recollect that learning the best way to pack, light, and smoke your pipe is something you can learn to perfect. It isn’t going to occur the first time you light it up irrespective of how many pipe smoking guides you read. It is something you need experience with so as to improve, so take time and chill. As with anything in life, learn from your mistakes. Packing Your Pipe. It’s critical to guarantee your pipe is freed from any prior ashes or condensation for a prior smoke. Run a pipe cleaner thru the stem and then blow on the stem to guarantee nothing is obstructing the air passage to the bowl. I’d highly suggest you turn the bowl away from your face or you will finish up with a face full of dottle ( ashes and unburned tobacco ). Take away the approximate amount of tobacco you will need to fill the bowl and place it on a tissue. Ensure the tobacco is freed from any clumps and therefore the moisture level of the tobacco isn’t to wet. If it is let it sit out for 2 mins while you take in the unsullied air of the evening. Loosely fill the bowl with tobacco. At anytime while filling do not press down on the tobacco with your thumb or fingers. Also don’t pinch the tobacco so firmly that you create clumps which you lost in step two. Now with your handy meddle tool press the tobacco down until its springy. The bowl should possibly be around half to three / 4 of the way full. Remember the tobacco should be springy not rock-hard. Take a test draw from the stem. Is there any resistance? If so dump out the tobacco or stir it up with your pick and begin again. Otherwise fill the bowl back up and tamp it down again. Take another test draw. Again there should be small or even no resistance. If there’s more resistance the breathing thru a drinking straw, dump or stir the tobacco and start again. If the tobacco still is not even with the pinnacle of the bowl add more tobacco and tap it down till it’s even with the top. Another test draw should yield only a little resistance. Lighting the pipe is straightforward. With the pipe between your lips, light your match and use it on the tobacco in a circular motion. You’ll want to make intensely shallow puffs on the pipe. You can probably see the tobacco swell up or untangle in the bowl. That’s completely normal and the primary purpose to the burning light. This expels any additional moisture from the tobacco and prepares the tobacco for the True Light. After the fake light the tobacco may not be at the same level – the height of the bowl. Use your meddle to carefully compress the tobacco back to the head of the bowl. Be very careful, here’s where many beginners make their worst mistake. Relight the match and again use it on the tobacco in a rounded motion. Again a collection of shallow puffs will be critical to re-ignite the flame. If done properly the tobacco shouldn’t unscramble or puff up like it did during the false light. If you have done everything right you should be enjoying your first pipe smoking experience. Bask in it. Like it. You may eventually get into a rhythm. If the smoke entering your mouth is hot you are going to fast. Slow down and take long regular puffs. If your pipe goes out while between puffs don’t be disturbed. That’s’s standard. Just relight.

Is a little cigar considered to be a cigarette?

February 25th, 2010

My friend recently showed me a pack of his little cigars. They were tiny cigars that seemed to be just like a cigarette. He purchased CAO Flavored Cigars, the honey cigarillos. He let me try one and I have tell you that I have smoked cigarettes and cigars for quite a few years now, and what I tried are nothing like cigarettes.  The cigarillo is made completely from the tobacco plant, where cigarettes are wrapped in paper and many additives are included with the tobacco.  The aroma was a major difference between the two.  While the cigarillo had a sweet aroma, cigarettes have more of a stale smoke.  I loved these little cigars, they were so sweet and would be a great smoke after a meal.  The taste of honey was left on my lips, which I can tell you a cigarette has never left a pleasant taste in my mouth.  I switched a long time ago from cigarettes to cigars.  I prefer a natural tobacco flavor to the processed tobacco. Adding flavors to the tobacco is an added sweet bonus.  As the years have gone by, I am smoking more and more cigars. I went from one a week, to about one a day, and I usually can only smoke about half of the cigar at one sitting. When I smoked cigarettes, I would smoke about a pack to a pack and a half a day. Switching to a little cigar would help, because they are stronger than a cigarette, and smaller than a typical cigar, so I will be able smoke less. They also come in small packs that I can take pretty much anywhere I go, that allows smoking. I have done some searching and found that these little cigars are very popular and come in many different flavor.  I would like to try the Irish cream cigarillos next, they sound very tasty.

Tobacco: Expected Social Graces

Selecting Cigars: The size of the cigar will give you a common indication of how full the taste is. The larger the ring size, most likely means, the smoother, fuller, slower and cooler the cigar will be. Cutting a smoke: The head of a hand rolled cigar must be cut before lighting it. You can do this with punch cutters, cigar scissors, or guillotine cutters. The guillotine is recommended for the perfect cut. Make sure you don’t snip the whole cap off, because it may damage the wrapper. Premium cigar fans are known for their admiration of food and wine. One of the greatest times to offer a cigar is after a meal. Other great times to indulge in your favorite stogie include: during or after business meetings, while walking the dog, while on your way to and from work or ulitmately just any time you’re looking to enjoy the fulfillment and relaxation provided by a fine cigar. Smoking a Fine Cigar: Cigars are meant to be admired and savored for the feel, taste and the aroma. Draw slowly. Don’t draw to hard. If your cigar extinguishes itself, it is proper to relight it within one to two hours. Any later than that, it will taste flavorless.
